The African Magazine Responsive Website
About Client
The African Magazine, the premier African magazine published in the United States, dates back to 1994. Is the prime source of first-hand information about U.S.-Africa relations in the spheres of Politics, Business, and Culture, and the historical and contemporary relations between Africa and Black America, as well as the African Diaspora throughout the world.
Project Overview
We were originally contracted by Soumanou, the publisher and editor of The African Magazine, to maintain and modify the then-current website.
Later, we were contracted to design a responsive WordPress website and manage its SEO.
Challenges
This project was about building a responsive website for the magazine. The SEO portions of this project proved somewhat troublesome, as it was difficult to pin down valid keywords and keyword phrases. Nonetheless, we succeeded. We worked closely with the client to identify long-tail keywords specific to African diaspora and U.S.-Africa relations content, which ultimately improved search visibility.
Solutions
This was more of a new build than a redesign, as we reworked every page on the site and created several new ones. This design is built on WordPress.
Solutions and Services We Provided
Conclusion
The new site is designed with a modern, clean aesthetic and optimized for ease of use for customers’ needs.

Why Publications and Media Outlets Need Strong SEO and Web Design
For a magazine or media publication, the website isn’t just a digital brochure — it’s the primary distribution channel for the content itself. Readers researching U.S.-Africa relations, cultural news, or diaspora-focused stories need to actually find the publication in search results before they can ever become a loyal reader. Unlike many local businesses that compete on a handful of local keywords, niche publications face a harder SEO challenge: identifying the specific long-tail topics and phrases their audience is genuinely searching for, then building content and site architecture around them. A publication with weak SEO can produce excellent journalism that simply never reaches the audience it’s written for.
That’s exactly the challenge Simply Web Services tackled for The African Magazine — rebuilding their WordPress website from the ground up and working closely with the publisher to identify the specific long-tail keywords tied to African diaspora and U.S.-Africa relations content that actually drove search visibility. Beyond the SEO work, we handled the full technical foundation: responsive design, secure hosting, domain management, SSL, and ongoing website maintenance, so the magazine’s focus could stay on content rather than infrastructure. Whether you run a niche magazine, news outlet, or media brand looking to grow its digital readership, Simply Web Services has the SEO and web design experience to help your content actually get found.
