Lake Anna Winery Responsive Website
About Client
Lake Anna Winery is a small boutique winery in Spotsylvania, Virginia, specializing in award-winning wines. Lake Anna Winery was founded in 1989 when the founder and owner, Bill Heidig, was in France on business. Lake Anna Winery sits on a 75-acre estate and boasts scenic pastoral views. It produces a variety of award-winning wines and offers self-guided tours, a tasting room, live music, festivals, and other special events.
Project Overview
We were contacted by Lake Anna Winery to fix major problems with their existing website. Once we had those bugs resolved, they wanted us to redesign their website, incorporating the fixes and a handful of new features into a modern design.
Challenges
This project was a little more difficult than most others, as we had to work around strict FedEx shipping requirements and restrictions due to shipping regulations around alcohol sales and distribution
Solutions
This was more of a new build than a redesign, as we rebuilt the homepage, shop, and Wine Club sections from scratch. This design is built on WordPress.

Why a Strong Website Matters for Wineries & Tasting Rooms
For a winery, a website has to do double duty — it needs to capture the charm and experience of visiting the estate while also functioning as a fully capable online store for wine sales, club memberships, and event bookings. Visitors researching a weekend wine-tasting trip or searching for a specific bottle online are forming their impression of the winery before they ever set foot on the property, and a clunky, outdated, or hard-to-navigate website can quietly cost a winery both tasting room visits and online sales. On top of that, wineries face a unique challenge most businesses don’t: strict regulations around shipping and selling alcohol online, which means the website itself has to be built correctly from a compliance standpoint, not just a design one.
Simply Web Services rebuilt Lake Anna Winery‘s website from the ground up — including a completely new homepage, online shop, and Wine Club sign-up system — while navigating FedEx’s specific shipping requirements for alcohol distribution to ensure every order remained compliant. Beyond the rebuild, we integrated Square payment processing, in-house shipping label printing, and a full SEO and local citation strategy that moved Lake Anna Winery from pages four and five on Google and Bing to the first page of both — putting them in front of far more wine lovers searching for a Virginia winery to visit or order from. Whether you’re a boutique winery, vineyard, or tasting room looking to modernize your online presence or add e-commerce and club membership capabilities, Simply Web Services has the experience to build it right — compliantly and beautifully.
