Animal Rites, USA (2007-2012)
Web Design – Then vs. Now
This Project Predates WordPress and Modern Frameworks
Realizing how hard it was for us to lose our pet, we thought we could bring some comfort and peace to others losing their pets. We believe that our pets go before us to prepare the way. If you have read the story Rainbow Bridge, you know that, somehow, these pets who loved us here will not let us be alone wherever we journey. The Spirit of our animals is always with us.
Cathy and Walker contacted us in 2007 to help them design a new website. We jumped right in and started helping Animal Rites get their new website up and running. Designing a custom website tailored to their requirements. Simply Web Services provided Web Design and Development, Graphic Design, HTML Coding, Website Consulting, Training, and Website Hosting. This site was also hosted on our servers and features a 100% original, custom design. The client maintained this website via a WYSIWYG editor.

Burgos Kennels (2012-2016)
Burgos Kennels has been proudly serving Fredericksburg, Virginia, with quality pet care since 1992. The kennel staff has all dedicated their lives to offering the best in pet boarding, grooming, and obedience training. The owner of Burgos Kennel, Rick Burgos, has the distinct honor of qualifying for the United States Schutzhund World Championships twice in his career, with two different dogs.
Rick contacted Simply Web Services in 2012 to build a website for his kennel and dog training business.
We built a robust 12-page website using WordPress as the Content Management System (CMS). This website includes videos, links, and customer testimonials. We were also hired to do some Photoshop work for the kennels.
In 2016, Burgos rebranded itself as B&R Kennels. They closed the website and built a new one with another company under the new business name.

Eagle Hill Equine Rescue (2008-2015)
Eagle Hill Equine Rescue (EHER) was a non-profit organization located in Culpeper, Virginia, along the Rapidan River. Eagle Hill Equine Rescue offered rescue, rehabilitation, and forever placement to abused, neglected, or at-risk equines. We were contracted by Annie, the owner of the rescue, in 2008 to modernize her web presence and to develop marketing materials and events. We worked with Annie to transform their outdated and tired website and boost their online presence. The biggest challenge was the sheer size and volume of the project. We had to photograph over 90 horses, create a profile for each horse, list them on the website, and keep up with the sometimes high turnover of available horses, with some weeks seeing adoptions of up to five horses.
We designed two websites for them over an eight-year period: the first an HTML site and the second a WordPress/WooCommerce site. We used WooCommerce in showcase mode (with no option to purchase) to list the available horses up for adoption. We also provided website design; graphics design; print design (business cards, brochures, banners, flyers, and even a coloring book for the client); photography (over the seven years we were under contract with Eagle Hill, we were on the property for photography sessions about once a quarter to capture new arrivals, new projects, and volunteers, and to show the progress of the rehabilitation of the horses and ponies and the occasional donkey. The sessions were always full eight-hour days or longer, and we were kept on our toes all day long.); Videography (we shot dozens of hours of video for a variety of EHER projects, including marketing videos and footage of horses in training); video storyboarding; video layout; video creation; music selection and syncing; video editing; digitizing, and DVD creation services to EHER.
It can be difficult working with Boards of Directors, as there are so many business-minded personalities that all tend to have their own ideas on how the website and marketing should work. When the board members change, those opinions change, often leading to votes to take the website in a new direction. The board changed, and in 2015, they voted to have one of the board members create a new website.

Hazelwild Farm Equestrian Center (2008-2013)
Hazelwild Farm Educational Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the academic and physical development of children and adults. This is accomplished through enrollment in our Country Day School, Summer Camp Program, Community Riding Program, University of Mary Washington Equestrian Program, American Interschool Riding Competition, and the Hazelwild Heroes Therapeutic Riding Program. Hazelwild also sponsors or hosts a wide variety of horse shows and equestrian clinics, children-oriented equine group education packages, and pony ride party packages.
Hazelwild Farm is located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, on the six-hundred-acre ancestral homestead of Anna Elizabeth Morrison. Miss Morrison was a dairy farmer / public school teacher and coach. She established the Foundation to continue her lifelong career of education and care for children.
We were contracted by Gene in 2008 to redesign their website for their Educational Foundation in Spotsylvania County.

North American Hunting Retriever Association (2009-2014)
NAHRA’s purpose is to discover and reward dogs that can fulfill the hunter’s needs in the field by performing in a manner consistent with the demands of actual hunting conditions.
The NAHRA concept is based solely on simulating real hunting situations, both upland hunting and waterfowl hunting. Tests are designed to simulate a day’s hunt in the field. The purpose is not to confront the dog with trick problems, but rather to test the dog’s natural ability and acquired training. Under the NAHRA concept, the objective is to recover the bird as quickly and efficiently as possible, to create as little disturbance in the marsh and field as possible, and to give the hunter the maximum time to actually take game.
NAHRA was a referral from Silverbrook Kennels. We were contacted by Dan to redesign and expand the NAHRA’s website.
They required that this new website allow members to log in and that each member have their own pages they can control. This website was built on Joomla 1.5 as the Content Management System (CMS). We don’t normally use Joomla, but it worked best for this type of project.
This was our largest project at the time. With paid ads, message forums, and unique user pages.
In 2014, things changed with the Board of Directors. It can be difficult working with Boards of Directors, as there are so many business-minded personalities that all tend to have their own ideas on how the website and marketing should work. When the board members change, those opinions change, often leading to votes to take the website in a new direction – and SWS was out in favor of a friend of one of the board members.

Rose Haven Equestrian Center (2008-2011)
Rose Haven Equestrian Center was a horse boarding and training facility located in King George County, Virginia, conveniently located near Fredericksburg, Stafford, Culpeper, Orange, Louisa, and Madison Counties.
Dana contacted Simply Web Services in 2009 to redesign a website for her horse boarding and training facility.
We actually designed two websites for this client, along with a corporate logo and a print ad.
The business went through a major reorganization shortly after we launched the website, and we were asked to take the new site down. The stables are still around at some capacity, just not as Rose Haven Equestrian Center.

Silverbrook Kennels (2005-2019)
Silverbrook Kennels is located 45 minutes south of Washington, D.C., in the scenic countryside north of historic Fredericksburg, Virginia. Silverbrook Kennels offers caring staff, skilled dog trainers, quality boarding facilities, daycare, obedience dog training, puppy training, and gun dog training.
We were contacted by Trish in 2005 to maintain her website after her web design company went out of business. We migrated her website to our servers and kept the site functional and up to date for 5 years. We were then contracted to design a new website for her kennel business located in Stafford. Trish had very exact ideas in her head of what she wanted the website to look like. Our job was to pull those visions from her head and put them online. Here is what that new site looked like.
In 2018, Trish wanted a fresh, modern-looking website to help market the kennel’s new direction. We were given much more latitude this time around, and we nailed it right out the gate. In 2019, the business made a major pivot, took a new direction, and brought in new management. This shift, unfortunately, meant that we were not part of the future, as the new management wanted to go with a friend to design the new website.
We enjoyed working with Trish and the kennel staff over the years and wish them the best of luck in the future.

Peace of Mind Pet Services LLC (2006-2018)
Web Design – Then vs. Now
This Project Predates WordPress and Modern Frameworks
Peace of Mind Pet Services LLC offered reliable pet-sitting and dog-walking services at competitive prices in the Fredericksburg and eastern Spotsylvania County area. Whether you are at work for the day or on vacation, their goal is to give you peace of mind knowing that someone reliable, trustworthy, and compassionate is looking after your “best friend.” Their service provides feeding, playtime, exercise, and affection, so you will come home to happy, content pets who have been well cared for while you are away.
Karen contacted us in 2006 to design a website for her new pet-sitting and dog-walking business.

Cozy Dog (2012)
Cozy Dog was a startup dog kennel, training, and grooming business in King George that never really got off the ground. Rachel contacted us to do some Photoshop work on images and design a logo for her.
The work we performed never saw the light of day, as the business was never launched.

Teen Horse Trainer (2018-2020)
Teen Horse Trainer was a blog for a Spotsylvania County high school student who loved writing about her experiences training horses.
We were contacted by Kellie in 2018 to help her design a simple blog for her new business. She had a strong logo that she had drawn for her, so we just needed to match the vibes.
After a couple of years, Kellie decided to close down the blog and focus on other aspects of her life.

The Cats Closet (2013-2015)
The Cats Closet was a cat boutique in downtown Fredericksburg that specialized in cat merchandise.
