# Managing MySQL Databases with phpMyAdmin in DirectAdmin

phpMyAdmin is a web-based tool for managing your MySQL databases — browsing tables, running SQL queries, and importing or exporting data — all without needing a separate database client installed on your computer. DirectAdmin gives you one-click access to phpMyAdmin for any database on your account.

Don't have a database yet? See [how to create a MySQL database in DirectAdmin](https://simplywebservices.net/docs/how-to-create-a-mysql-database-in-directadmin/) first.

## How to Access phpMyAdmin

1. [Log in to your DirectAdmin](https://simplywebservices.net/docs/how-to-log-into-the-directadmin-control-panel/) control panel by accessing https://yourdomain:2222
2. Navigate to **Databases**(under **Account Management**).
3. Find the database you want to manage and click its **phpMyAdmin** link/icon.
4. phpMyAdmin opens in a new tab, already logged in — no separate database username or password is needed.

### Common Tasks in phpMyAdmin

- **Browse and edit data**: click a table name in the left sidebar to view its rows; use the **Browse**, **Edit**, and **Delete** buttons next to any row to make changes directly.
- **Run a SQL query**: click the **SQL** tab to write and execute custom queries against your database.
- **Import data**: click **Import**, then upload a `.sql` file to load data or restore a table structure — useful when migrating a site or restoring from a backup.
- **Export data**: click **Export** to download your database (or specific tables) as a `.sql` file — handy for backups or moving to another environment.
- **Create or modify tables**: use the **Structure** tab to add, edit, or remove columns and indexes.

#### Before You Make Changes

Editing a live database can break your website if done incorrectly. Before running queries or imports, make sure you have a current [website backup](https://simplywebservices.net/docs/how-to-backup-your-website-in-directadmin/) — database backups are included when you select "Databases" in the backup options.
