# How to use File Manager in DirectAdmin

DirectAdmin includes a built-in File Manager so you can manage your website files directly from your control panel — no separate FTP client required.

## **How to access File Manager:**

1. [Log in to your DirectAdmin](https://simplywebservices.net/docs/how-to-log-into-the-directadmin-control-panel/) control panel by accessing https://yourdomain:2222
2. Under the **System Info & Files** section
3. Click the **File Manager** icon.

You'll land in **My Files**, showing your account's directory tree on the left (including 'domains/', 'public_html', '.php', 'Maildir', and 'tmp') and the file listing on the right.

### **What you can do**

Toolbar actions (top of the page):

- **New Folder / New File** — create empty folders or files in the current directory
- **Upload** — upload files from your computer directly into the current folder
- **Search** — find a file or folder by name within your account
- **Directory sizes** — calculate and display the size of each folder

Actions on a selected file or folder:

- **Edit** — opens the built-in code/text editor (text-based files only)
- **Copy / Duplicate** — copy a file or folder to another location, or duplicate it in place
- **Move** — relocate a file or folder
- **Download** — download the file/folder to your computer
- **Archive** — compress the selection into a `.zip` or `.tar.gz`
- **Rename**
- **Set Permissions** — change file/folder permissions (chmod) and ownership
- **Remove** — delete (sends to Trash Bin, which you can restore from or empty separately)
